New Year, Greater Vision

January 30, 2014 by Valerie

It would be wrong to say ‘new year, new vision’, because we still want to reach the communities that surround our home churches. We also want to continue to equip our members and others to share the gospel using their special, specific, and unique gifts.

But we always want to grow. Part of growth is having greater vision.

What do we mean by ‘greater vision’?

Greater Clarity: We want to better define the things we do to serve the people we serve. We want what we do to come under who we are and what God has called us to.

Greater Impact: We want to have deeper impact into our communities. Through better understanding the needs, fears, and hopes of our communities, we can better meet people where they are and impact them more.

The Father’s Love Moves Us Forward

August 23, 2013 by Valerie

Today I met the daddy I wrote about yesterday.

He expressed to me how much he loved having children. “Although its hard to see them grow up, it’s exciting to see them surf in the ocean or to let that bicycle go.”

And I told him that’s how our heavenly Father’s love is toward us. He gets excited, I believe, to see us grow. He knows it’s not good for us to stay in the same place. He wants us to trust Him enough so we can move ahead…

The Father’s Love

August 22, 2013 by Valerie

So I’m at the beach for a little R&R and I’m watching a little girl and her daddy in the rough waters.

She keeps going under, water keeps getting in her eyes, but her daddy keeps picking her up and showing her how to ride the waves.

She listens and follows his directions, knowing that he is there to protect her and lift her up – his arm always outstretched to her. Now that’s love, don’t ya think? Kinda reminds me of another Father’s love.

What about you?

Getting Ready for the New Year

December 29, 2012 by Valerie

We’ll do a recap of the past year soon, but I wanted to drop a quick note about the New Year.

Before I do that, thanks for making our Christmas party wonderful! It was a packed house at Columbia at Edgewood. And I believe everybody ate as much as they wanted. It’s always fun to celebrate our Lord’s birth with you.

The New Year – 2 Important Practices

Many of us create new year’s resolutions. Many of us break them quickly and give up.

Let me suggest a couple things:

1.  Set Goals, not Resolutions. Goals are pictures of an ideal future. If we have goals, we have an idea of what and who we want to become.

If we fail from time to time, that’s okay. A goal is something to move toward. As long as the sum of our actions is taking us toward that hopeful future, we’re doing okay.

Moving toward goals also gives us the opportunity to be gentle and forgiving with ourselves (and learn how to accept God’s forgiveness).

2. Celebrate the Past Year.  Look back at what worked and what went well. It’s a great idea to be thankful for God’s blessings and how He’s grown you.

If you can find a few things that worked for you and that you learned, you can enter the new year encouraged. You can also build on those things.

Thanks for making 2012 wonderful! Here’s to a blessed 2013–a year that God will continue to grow us and a year where we’ll fall even more in love with Jesus!
